First Essex Battalion Sports Day 1927
The 1st Essex like most Battalions held
annual sports days. The results give us a chance to see another
side of our ancestors.
The Sports day was held in June 1927 at
Colchester sin showery weather which failed to damp the spirits.
The most popular winner was Private
Manning who won the veterans race despite several falls. Pte
Manning has over 28 years service and was the only man in the
Battalion to hold the Queens African Medal for Boer War
service.
Lt Colonel A B Incledon-Webber CMG DSO
who is CO of the Battalion was present with judges drawn from
Battalion officers and RSM Sparrow as the field judge.
