44th Essex Depot 1866
While the regiment was serving in
India a depot was set up at Colchester Garrison to manage
regimental affairs in the UK.
The strength of the depot was 2
Captains, 6 Subalterns, 8 Sergeants, 4 Drummers, 242 rank and
file, 21 women and 11 children.
In January 1866 the dept was moved to
Dover to meet the regiment when it returned from duty in India
and was stationed at Dover.
