56th West Essex Colchester Depot Staff in 1866
While the regiment was serving in India a
depot was set up at Colchester Garrison to manage regimental
affairs in the UK.
The strength of the deport was 3 captains,
3 subalterns, 7 sergeants, 4 drummers, 178 rank and file, 12
women and 16 children.
In January 1866 the dept was moved to
Portsmouth to meet he regiment when it returned from duty in
India and was stationed at Parkhurst on the Isle of Wight.
