8th Essex Battalion Dinner 1914
On 7 March 1914 the 8th Essex Cyclist Battalion held their first annual dinner at the Masonic Hall, Colchester.
Sgt Major Allen presided supported by Lt Col J C Tabor ( Battalion Commander).
Also in attendance was
Major W F Ackland (Saffron Walden) , Captain & Adjutant Needham ( Suffolk Regiment), Lt H Innocent ( Leyton) and Lt Gerald Benham (Colchester).
The dinner was preceded by a shooting competition for Sergeants of the Battalion.
The winners of this competition were the Colchester team of QMD Berry, Sgt J Tippins, Sgt Wills, Sgt Trayhern and Sgt Oakes.
