9th Essex - Laying up of the colours 1927
On 29 May 1927 a service was held at the Essex Regimental Chapel when the colours of the 9th Essex were laid up.
The Colours were presented to the battalion by the Prince of Wales in France in 1918.
Prior to the ceremony the men of the battalion paraded under Captain G A M Paxton MC.
A colour party was provided by the Essex Regiment Deport which joined the former members of the Battalion in the parade.
An inspection was carried out by the Colonel in Chief of the Essex regiment, General F Ventris CB.
The service was carried out by the Essex Regiment Chaplain at Warley, Rev W F Crosswait MC and the sermon preached by Rev H P Berkley MC HCF who was formerly Chaplain to the 12th Division. The organist was Mr T C King.
