Army Life

Army life was very different to the lifestyles known to the recruits as it was tailored to produce men who were able to function as an efficient fighting machine.

The obvious difference was unquestioning discipline and obedience but on a deeper examination many of the rules on lifestyle were beneficial to the men and to the army as healthy men were able to fight but sick men were of no use to their country and useless mouths to feed'.
