15th Essex Volunteer Rifles - Volunteers for Boer War Duty
Although by now part of the 5th
Battalion Essex Regiment, once the call came for volunteers to
fight in the Boer War, practically all of the old Volunteers
stepped forward.
Only seven members were accepted and in
February 1900 joined the 1st Essex Regiment at Bloemfontein.

Corporal H Alexander
Privates F J W Chester, H Chester, J
Cole, H Halestrap and T Tarling.
During the war Private F J W Chester,
aged 22, died at Pretoria on 4 July 1900.
