In September 1863 the 7th Essex Volunteer Rifles held a shooting competition at Southend.
The competition was supervised by Captain Tawke.
The contestants included
Lt Barnard
Ensign Knapping
Asst Surgeon Jones
Privates Boreham, William Parke, Jones ( Prittlewell), Waller and Reeve.
