Sergeant Bausor gave a vote of thanks.

He said that he was captured at the start of a German offensive. His normal meals were corn coffee and after 8 hours work with a pick and shovel they were fed with horse flesh which often was maggoty. By August 1918 food was in such short supply that they were fed with a soup of crushed acorns and ground up mangold.

Rifleman Harris who had been a prisoner for 2 years said that he was worked from 6.30am to 7pm unloading granite from barges and in a foundry breaking up pig iron.

He was also involved in  making barbed wire which would be used on the front line. One of the prisoners refused and was shot dead by a guard for his refusal.
