VAD Hospital Maldon

The Red Cross Hospital at Maldon was called the Rivercourt Hospital and was situated at Fullbridge, Maldon.

The hospital was owned by Maldon Ironworks Company who had placed the area at the disposal of the autorities for the duration of the war.

The hospital, which opened in August 1914,  was fully equipped with 16 beds in seven small wards with space available for expansion.

All equipment has been provided by the inhabitants of the town or via Mr C R Gowers who is the manager of the Ironworks.

Accomodation includes a drug store, commandants office, operating room, kitchen, kit room and quarter masters stores.

In 1920 a British Empire Medal was awarded to Mrs Alice Krohn Vice President of Maldon Red Cross and wartime Commandant of Rivercourt Auxiliary Hospital, Maldon.
